Last week, Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu released the Government of India Calendar 2017 on the theme “Mera Desh Badal Raha Hai, Aage Badh Raha Hai.” As always some people have criticised this. The Huffington Post is sounding critical. The Telegraph, surprise surprise, has claimed that “……The space occupied by Modi’s images, just under 48 per cent of the total area of all pages in the calendar, is a massive jump up from the 4.7 per cent space he took in the 2015 edition, and 4.2 per cent in 2016.” Truly, some people cannot help have negative thoughts.
I am distraught. This calendar does no justice to the rapid strides that India has made in the last two and half years. We in India have probably never seen such progress, such happiness and such prosperity in the last 69 years.
I feel sad that in spite of a population of 1.3 billion plus, the burden of all of this development has to be carried by one man. He is the greatest of them all but ever for a superhero, this may get too much. The 70 odd useless people who are called ministers should be held to account for having a holiday while delegating upwards.
I wish I were in the Harry Potter universe where we could have had moving pictures. With audio. Then I could had auditory pleasure as well as visual pleasure at my nation becoming a super-power.
I am upset that I am not able to read more inspirational quotes. How can one person, supremely gifted though he is, fit his wisdom in just 12 quotes? How can mere 12 quotes inspire 7 billion people? We need many more and this calendar falls short. Woefully short.
and now I am angry. I am missing so many of my rights because of a poor decision by GoI. I am thinking of starting a petition on The world’s platform for change with Prime Minister Modi as the key target & decision maker. I am demanding that government of India publish a weekly official calendar. That way we can have a glimpse of the ways in which lives of citizens have improved. I am aware that even 52 such glimpses will not do justice, foreign policy achievements themselves will cover all the pages. Alas we have only 52 weeks in the year. I am happy though that in the next 8 years, we will be able to have over 400 snap-shots of our happiness. I dream of the coming years.
